Celebrated on November 16th, Blue Amazon Day has been observed since 2015. The Blue Amazon is the oceanic area that forms the Brazilian maritime domain and corresponds to more than 52% of the country's continental territory. It received this name because its strategic importance, natural wealth, and biodiversity are comparable to our Green Amazon. In Brazil, from Arroio Chuí in Rio Grande do Sul to Cabo Orange in Amapá, there are more than 9,000 km of coast, defining one of the largest coastlines on the planet. The Blue Amazon is part of the natural and cultural capital of Brazilians and represents a driving force of fundamental importance for the country's progress and the future of generations to come. Not only as a source of life, this ocean is also essential to the very destiny of our humanity, as it absorbs about a third of carbon dioxide emissions and thus plays a decisive role in regulating the climate. For a dive into the blue of this Amazon, we recommend the video by SBPC – Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science; and to learn how the world's waters converge towards a more ocean-conscious future, we suggest the website of the Ocean Decade, proposed by the United Nations.
